Mai Iskander is an award-winning director and cinematographer. Her first film, Garbage Dreams (SXSW, IDFA) won 26 international awards, was shortlisted for the 2010 Academy Awards and nominated for Best Documentary by the Director’s Guild of America. Mai’s cinematic work resonates universally because it taps the unique soul of each subject. The result is inspired storytelling, simply told with humanity and honesty. Mai’s recognizable visual watermark and innate understanding of diverse storytelling have also landed her in the director’s chair for the campaigns of major commercial clients, such Whirlpool, Liberty Mutual, and Apple. Her “Care Counts” campaign for Whirlpool was awarded four Lions at the 2017 Cannes Festival (Grand Prix, a Gold Lion, and two Bronze Lions). Mai’s cinematography work has what the Los Angeles Times calls a “you-are-there vitality,” and has been profiled in ARRI’s centennial website and companion book “100 Years of Arri.”
